so here we start with the latest batch of ICS volunteers from within Lesotho and from UK!!! The Team here were very sad to see the previous team leave at the beginning of April but have been frantically getting ready for our new arrivals.
On 14th April our new lovely Team Leader Ros arrived in Maseru from the UK and a week later we had the happy arrival of new UK volunteers :)
The UK and Basotho volunteers were introduced to each other immediately and and spent the next 4 days together for the In-County Orientation. The volunteers were also introduced to the Lesotho Programme Supervisor - Maboitelo who facilitated the orientation alongside the Team Leaders.
As is always the case in ICS, when you put 2 sets of people from different cultures and backgrounds together, they both put masses of effort to accommodate each others differences and identify what we all have in common. It was clear in 4 days that solid friendships had already been formed :)

Tash
Thabana Morena:
Team Leader - Ros

The volunteers spent the first couple of weeks in their communities getting to know their new neighbours and the people they will be working with during their sessions. Alongside this volunteers also attended partner orientation / training with OYAP / LENEPWHA which would have given them more insight into what they will be doing on a day to day basis.
In the coming weeks each placement team will write a blog post that will add more detail to what they are doing in their communities etc :)
Last week representatives from all placement teams (1 Team Leader and 1 Volunteer) attended 'Sports Leaders Volunteer Training', run by OYAP, which gave them more in depth training in how to deliver sport activities such as Volleyball, Football, Aerobics, Boxing and Kids Athletics. The training also gave the volunteers some 'hands-on' training on how to facilitate sessions.
Following this the rest of the ICS Volunteers met in Maseru to have their first OYAP/LENEPWHA Team Meetings and then gathered to have their first Social Reflection Event.
As a Lesotho ICS Team we have 2 Social Reflection Events booked into our timetables - this is an opportunity for the whole team to gather, reflect on how things have gone in their placements and share ideas and experiences.
For this event we went to Ts'ehlanyane National Park where the volunteers enjoyed a Braai (BBQ) and time to reflect in the beautiful mountain landscape.
Looking forward we have our mid-term review next weekend but in the mean-time we will hear from LENEPWHA Thabana Morena within the next week :)
